2 Saturdays: Jan 31 & Feb 28 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Empower yourself and your community with the gift of song & chant!  This training course is designed for healers, guides, yoga teachers, community leaders, and for anyone who is looking to deepen their skills as a singer and steward of song for the purpose of healing and liberation.  Whether you are simply song leader-curious, an aspiring song or chant leader, or are already leading songs and chants in your community, this training will offer opportunities for you to continue to develop and hone your skills as a singer and song & chant leader.

This training course consists of 8 consecutive Tuesday evening classes (2 hours each, at 16 hours total) and two Saturday masterclass intensives (5 hours each, for 10 hours total), equalling 26 hours of in-person training time.  Additionally, all sessions will be recorded and shared with the training group only, to account for sessions missed or for a desire to repeat content.

This training will include:

  • Why and how the work of empowering people and communities through song is such an integral tool for healing and liberation

  • How to create containers of inclusivity, connection, healing, and empowerment, while encouraging others to use and explore their voices on their own terms

  • Specific varying skills for effective and easeful song sharing

As part of the training, you will receive a songbook created by Emily, along with links to song recordings, that we will work through during our time together.  This songbook will include a variety of song & chants such as:

  • Call and response chants, including kirtans and other sanskrit chants

  • Short form, repetitive, healing songs and chants in english that are teachable and accessible

  • Simple songs that can be used in ceremony

  • Songs and chants for liberation and activism

Additional topics and skills that will be explored include but are not limited to:

  • Vocal health and how to protect your voice and the voices of others

  • Ear training, harmony training and practice, and how to teach harmonies

  • Determining the appropriate kind of song or chant to lead with your group

  • Fundamentals of bhakti yoga for the purpose of kirtan chant leading, when applicable

  • Sharing songs both with and without different kinds of instrumental accompaniment

  • 2-3 opportunities to practice song and chant leading with the group, in a supportive, celebratory, and constructive environment
