Ethereal Vocal Soundscapes ~ Integrating the Voice into Sound Healing: 35 hr Immersive Training
Join Emily Joan Smith, Gabriella Gaona, and Thomas Orr Anderson for this 35-hour immersive training, including 30 hours of in-person instruction and 5 hours of optional supplemental resources and practices, on integrating the human voice into sound healing offerings.
This integrative training combines the fundamentals, theory, and science of sound healing; introductions to playing specific sound healing instruments; exploration of the overtones, harmonics, and tonal qualities of instruments and the voice; and guidance and practices for the many ways the voice can be woven into a sound healing experience.
This training is happening over Two Weekend Immersions + Five Tuesday Evenings:

All training sessions will take place at The Heartsong Shala 2822 Frankfort Ave (on the second floor of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church)
What to expect:
fundamentals, theory, and science of sound healing, what it actually is, how it relates to nervous system regulation, and how this informs the ways we use sound healing instruments, including the voice
exploration of the overtones, harmonics, and sonic qualities of the voice and instruments, and how these sounds interact
introduction to playing specific sound healing instruments: crystal-glass bowls, drum, harmonium, rainstick, rattles, shakers, and koshi chimes, and how the voice can be used alongside them
guidance on the design, scope, and structure of a sound healing experience
guided vocal practices exploring a wide range of vocal sounds, rhythms, and melodies, and how to transfer these into a sound healing offering
foundational vocal techniques involving breath, tone, pitch, and range
how to weave songs and chants into sound healing offerings
music interval and ear training to assist in improvising simple vocal patterns and melodies
practices to develop more embodied and easeful vocal flow
opportunities to put all of these skills into actual practice!

About Your Guides:
Emily Joan Smith is a devotional singer, musician, yoga teacher, holistic voice coach, sound healer, and music educator who has been sharing her work in the Louisville area for over 20 years. She is the founder of Louisville kirtan band Anahata Bhakti and the creator of The Heartsong Shala, a sacred space meditation and music studio in Louisville offering healing song and chant circles, along with voice, harmonium, and music education classes within the context of sacred song and sound.
Gabriella Gaona is an artist, yogi, nature lover, multi-instrumentalist, sound therapist, and event producer. She is the co-founder of The Inner Warrior and MYPATH Fest, co-producer of Rhythm Rising, and co-creator of the Living Way Yoga-Sound Integration System. For over a decade, she has taught yoga, led retreats, produced festivals, and created spaces for connection, healing, and community. Thomas Orr Anderson is a physicist, musician, author, sound therapist, event producer, and longtime Qigong instructor whose work integrates acoustics, contemplative practice, and the embodied experience of sound. With bachelor’s and master’s degrees in physics, he brings scientific clarity to the study of vibration, resonance, attention, and nervous system regulation. He is the co-creator of the Living Way Yoga-Sound Integration System, co-producer of Rhythm Rising, author of Master Handbook of Sound Healing, and host of The Art & Science of Sound Healing podcast.
